Help for family and friends
Adoption
We’re here for you too
Adoption is legally and emotionally very complicated and extended family and friends are often closely involved in the process.
In fact, when we talk to a pregnant woman and/or her partner considering adoption, we emphasise to them the benefits of involving their family or a close friend for support. As such, you will have a lot of questions, feelings and opinions of your own. Here2Help is accredited by the Adoption Authority of Ireland to provide Information and Tracing services to anyone whose records we keep and our experienced, professional counsellors can fully help you, so that you can help them. and our experienced, professional counsellors can fully help you, so that you can help them.
Your role and your wellbeing are crucial
While you may see your role as simply giving support, if you are related to the child being placed for adoption, you may well be going through a grieving process of your own. If so, our expert counsellors can meet you on your own to give you advice, support and a safe place to share your feelings as well. Please be aware though, that your counsellor would not be able to breach the mother’s confidentiality by giving you specific details about their situation.
We can help you stay in touch
Depending on the circumstances, it may be a possibility for you to remain in some form of contact with the child over the years to come, even if the child is placed for adoption. This is something you can discuss with our counsellor. However, please be aware that if the woman, even after talking to her own counsellor here with us, still does not wish to involve anyone else, we will respect her choice first and foremost.
