Book a CompanionSt James's is one of Ireland's biggest teaching hospitals. It runs the National Adult Oncology Centre, large geriatric services, the National Burns Unit, and an enormous outpatient cancer programme. The catchment is everyone from city-centre flats to north Wicklow to the further reaches of west Dublin. That means a constant flow of patients who shouldn't be making their own way home after sedation, chemotherapy, major surgery, or a long stay — but often have to.
The hospital sits on a complex site near James's Street. The main entrances and ward blocks are spread out. Taxi ranks aren't always close to where a patient is actually being discharged. For someone post-procedure on a walking aid, that walk alone can be the hardest part of the day. A Here2Help companion arrives at the ward, takes over from the nurse, and handles every step from there.
Our companion identifies at the nurses' station of the relevant ward, takes the handover, and accompanies your relative out — not from the entrance, from the bedside.

Many St James's patients leave after chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Our companions are trained on the particular fatigue and sensitivities that follow.
